Another Reason I could think of for MTGO is that, because it is a WotC App you can qualify for different tournaments and compete in different tournaments there. I think the common knowledge is that there is a stronger and more competitive playerbase in MTGO because everyone playing spent money on the cards, while Xmage is free.
